Not for me. Too much to go wrong, too much to lose. If I need a speed fix, I'll do a track day.

Couldn't agree more, I have my favourite roads like anybody and corners that to me would'nt be the same if I was'nt scratching, the real buzz does come though from like you say cracking it on roads that you have'nt ridden before, agree it's not a speed thing, for me it's just about getting the perfect line, if the knee goes down then even better:thumbup

It's that sort of riding that is getting all the popular bike roads over here heavily policed and the speed limits constantly dropped. There is no way you can tell me you're riding safely on the steet dragging a knee on a road you haven't ridden before. :dowhat

To be honest with you the best roads over here are already over policed, we have a 6 mile stretch near me that reguarly will have two Police traffic cars, a camera van, two Police bikes and a fixed wing aircraft equipped with video surveillance, the reason for this is simply speed and rider error of the 40+ accidents recorded over the past 3 years none have been linked with knee down antics, the majority of bike accidents have been solo riders who couldn't negotiate bends in the road safely, maybe if they'd stuck their knee out they'd have got round, the UK is a country where bikers are consistently having their liberties eroded, one of the top three accident statistics involving bikes over here is a solo rider failing to negotiate a bend, these unskilled riders who consistently throw themselves down the road are the ones that cause the perception that all bikers are lunatics, they are the reason that speed limits are reduced and Policing is increased not the skilled rider who knows what he and his machine are capable of and just want to enjoy their ride:thumbup

Steve_TLS
07-07-2007, 12:04 AM
But how many of them crashed because they were going too slow? :dunno

I learnt to drag a knee on the street. I know dragging a knee on the street is not as safe as not dragging a knee. No one will ever convince me that a skilled rider dragging a knee is safer than a skilled rider not dragging a knee.

I know what my machine is capable of, I enjoy my ride, but I take it to the track when I want ot push limits. Well away from Ma & Pa citizen who have nothing better to do than complain about the hoons on bikes.

(No one ever needs to get their knee down anymore :laugh http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KNEE-SLIDERS-WORN-TO-ORDER_W0QQitemZ180134666733QQihZ008QQcategoryZ42507QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem )

Fine if you now choose not to get your knee down on the street that's your choice, you say you learned to drag your knee on the street yet moan at fellow riders who choose to do what you did, so Ma & Pa citizen were'nt around when you were getting your kneedown, a little bit hypocritical if you don't mind me saying so.

Steve_TLS

Very hypocritical. :yes

But I survived and realised how dumb I was. I thought it meant I was a good rider, cool and would brag about it. Now I realise I was just a dick and a moron and giving bike riders a bad name. :dunno

This started because of the comments like nowt like finding a nice bend, esp one you havent been on before" and "real buzz does come though from like you say cracking it on roads that you have'nt ridden before" - and then it's unskilled riders failing to negotiate bends and not knee draggers that are crashing.

So I got on my high horse - because, not matter how skilled you are, when you're dragging a knee on the street you're not as safe as when you're not and it paints a bad image in the eye of the public.

On reflection I agree with your comments, funny how this thread just coincided with me doing a track day yesterday in Wales, I nailed every corner of that track left and right handers 100mph kneedown rights ( a first for me at that speed ) yes I've done it on the road at much, much lower speeds, but being out there yesterday and pushing the bike as hard as I did relied on a number of things, tyre temp, surface conditions etc, etc, you just can't replicate these conditions on the road consistently, I think if I knee down on the road again it will probably be through necessity over anything else:thumbup

On the road, there are few places I can manage it, only 2 bends on the fiddle even get me scraping, roundabouts on the other hand are fair game IMO.
The track is easy, however the left puck always feels further away than the right, I think that stems from roundabout experience and oncoming traffic :scared

That's all it is, you just need a few anti-clockwise roundabouts:smilie

Or some really quiet ones, on disused roads, perhaps industrial estates at a weekend :devious

I have some mates that scratch everywhere, they have supreme confidence into corners and tip it over in the blink of an eye, both ways, I like to really really get to know the bend before I attempt to scratch, the original pic I took is a really nice (slow) hairpin uphill and I'm going about 25-35 mph, you can't tell me that was unsafe to do :no

But I guess 99% of the time it is irresponsible, but then, we all got to learn to wheelie too, also some of the speeds we go on the public roads would hardly count as sensible.

The whole biking package is a collection of crimes, and irresponsibleness.

Just a case of knowing where and when.

Was it Anglessey you did
