Number plates

What size number plate is your bike wearing and have you been pulled cause of it ? Ive always had 9 x 3 on my bikes and have never had a problem, been pulled over regardin speed a couple of times but the number plates never been mentioned, any problems anyone ?:biggrin:eatcorn:eatcorn

9 x 3 also...looks about right, not stupidly small, but neat enough to tidy back end.

7 X 5 for me!! I have always had this size plate on my bikes and have never been pulled by the fuzz!

Legal letter size and spacing but trimmed down to the bone, edge of plate meets lettering top, bottom and sides. Small enough to not be an air brake, "legal" enough not to get me noticed, and I have never had trouble from plod over the heads of it :biggrin ............................ yet

Had to be this small to fit between my Promotives :thumbup

On our way up to Scotland this year Cumbria police nabbed a friend of mine for his plate, copper stated its the era of electronic recognition so plate size is important.
I think he has a point too.
We tend to get left alone to hoon around on national speed limit roads, of course they know we abuse the speed limits, I think a small plate rubs there noses in it.

I've got a 7x5 - Actually ordered it by mistake thinking it was a little bigger after taking poor measurements of my old RSV plate.
Looks a little small to me but until I get a tug, it's staying there.....

According to a report in MCN if it can be read from 20.5 mtr the police wont bother pullin ya for it :devious

I quizzed the police bloke who pulled my mate, he said there was no change in the law, he had a template, also said bikes newer than whatever age were not allowed to have letterbox plates.
It was quite funny really, there were 10 of us, mostly on TLS's with full systems, he pulled my mate for his plate, the full system folk tip toed off up to hartside, the coppers face was a picture, could have made a fortune :lol

a small plate helped me to a £30 fine, but got me off with wheeling across a box junction, speeding, loud cans and he was a very happy copper

got done twice on the way from hull to edinburgh for a 9x3 plate,(veh rect notice) they dont like car stylee rear plates on bikes. I have a 7x5 now which is legible at 22.5 metres or whatever it is. In germany their plates are A4 in size..eek

Having anything other than an a legal plate on the back of your bike is an invitation to pull you, they don't need any other reason as you've already committed an offence, so why bother?

Well I am married to a copper and I ride with coppers, and socialise with coppers. And I have never been pinged for my letterbox plate on my gixer. At the end of the day it comes down to the officer that spots you. My best tip is to be polite to plod. (even if you dont like them) Chances are they will let you off. I am not gay or owt!

thats wot the problem is, its all a bit of a grey area, and down to individual officer discretion/mood etc. Depends wot mood their in.

is 9x7 standard? If so I thikn mine is about 7x5. Not too small but next to a standard one you can tell but its not bad enough to draw too much attention.

I have private plates on my Car and Van but am scared to do it to the bike cos the way it needs to be read means putting T4RK on the top line and V on the bottom. On the car plate it looks fine as T4 RKO and T4 RKD. DO you think it will cause me too much trouble with the fuzz?

I have a 7x5. Next to the standard air brake plate, it looks tiny!

mines a7x5 and legible a 25 metres, which is about what the ACPO guideleines state re legibility. Of course it depends which orificer pulls you over. Just whatever you do stay with the normal font, they really hate diff ones.
Remeber in Germany their plates are A4 in size (eek!), i pity them...actaully no I dont!, they're Geeeerman!!
